AIO Tests allows users to customize the case types with the click of a button. On the test management tool, users can add new Case Type as per their organization’s use, edit existing case types, reorder case types, archive case types that are not needed for a particular project, and delete the types that are no longer in use or are not applicable for the project or organization.

Steps to Add a New Case Type

Step 1: To add a new case type, simply click on the Gear icon and select the Project Settings option from the drop-down menu.

Only Project & Jira Admins (and any assigned AIO Admins) can add new Case Types as per their organization’s use.

Step 2: Click on the Case Types option in the sidebar menu.

Step 3: On the Case Types page, click on the Add button. Enter the name of the new case type into the Case Type Name field and click on the Save button.

Once you click on the Save button, the new case type will be displayed on the screen.

Steps to Edit a Case Type Name

Step 1: To edit a case type name, click on the Pencil icon for the case type that you want to edit and enter the new name for the case type. Finally, click on the Save button.

Steps to Reorder Case Types

Step 1: To reorder case types, all you need to do is click on the Reorder button.

Step 2: Drag and drop the case type using the drag handle icon for the case types that you want to rearrange. Finally, click on the Done button.

Steps to Archive Case Types

Step 1: To archive the case type, all you need to do is click on the Archive button for the case type that you want to archive.

Once you click on the Archive button, archived case types will be displayed in the right box (visible to everyone).

  • Archived Types don’t show up in the Type drop-down of the Create and Edit Case pages.

  • Users have the option to Unarchive and Delete the archived case types. 

    • Unarchive: By clicking on the Unarchive button, users will be able to take the Type back to available case types and it will start showing up again in the Type drop-downs. 

    • Delete: By clicking on the Delete button, users will be able to delete the case type. 

  • If a user tries to use the type that has been archived while creating or editing a case (e.g. they have not yet refreshed their session and can still see the type that has been archived), an error message will be displayed on the screen.

Cases with Archive types continue to show the Archived type in the case details. But in the History tab, users can see that the type has been archived. An example is shown below.

Steps to Delete Case Type

Step 1: To delete a case type, click on the Delete button for the case type that you want to delete.

Step 2: Once you click on the Delete button, a confirmation modal window will appear on the screen. Select a replacement Case Type where you want to move the existing cases with the selected case type that you want to delete.Finally, click on the Delete button. 

Warning
  • Deleted case types cannot be recovered. This is an irreversible operation.

  • Deleted Types don’t show up in the Type drop-down of the Create and Edit Case pages.

Once you click on the Delete button, deleted case types will be displayed in the right box for some time (while deletion is in progress: replacing cases with new type).

  • If types have been archived too, then the ‘Marked for Deletion’ box appears below the ‘Archived Case Types' box. 

  • The ‘Marked for Deletion’ box disappears once the replacement of cases with the new type has been completed by the system.

  • If a user tries to use the type that has been deleted while creating or editing a case (e.g. they have not yet refreshed their session and can still see the type that has been deleted), an error message will be displayed on the screen. 

  • If deletion is in progress and the Admin tries to archive or delete the replacement type, an error message will be displayed on the screen.

Cases with Deleted types will show the replacement type in the case details after the replacement is over. In the History tab, users can see that the type has been deleted. An example is shown below.
